The project aims to strengthen the socio-economic and organizational capacities of Indigenous women in the groupements of Mudaka and Miti, in the Kabare chiefdom. Faced with poverty, exclusion, and limited participation in decision-making, it combines literacy, leadership training, support for Income-Generating Activities (IGAs), revitalization of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), and advocacy for the inclusion of Indigenous women and youth in decision-making processes.
The challenge of this project lies in the marginalization of Indigenous women in the groupements of Mudaka, Miti, Bugorhe et Irhambi-Katana who face poverty, social exclusion, limited access to education and economic opportunities, as well as low participation in community decision-making. The project addresses this need by strengthening their empowerment, capacities, and social and economic inclusion.
The solution proposed by this project is to build the capacities of Indigenous women in Mudaka, Miti, Bugorhe and Katana through literacy, leadership training, and awareness of human rights; to support their economic activities through training and income-generating activities via their participation in Village Savings and Loan Associations; and to promote their inclusion in community decision-making. This will enhance their empowerment, active participation, and social and economic inclusion.
The project enables 150 Indigenous households of Mudaka, Miti, Bugorhe and Katana to achieve stable incomes through income-generating activities. It will also impact the sustainable management of forest resources in Kahuzi-Biega National Park, on which the neighboring Indigenous communities depend. The project fosters the emergence of female leaders capable of managing and sustaining initiatives, promoting women's rights, and advocating for a more inclusive and resilient community.
