Wetlands That Protect and Provide
The wetlands of South Busoga are coming back to life, and it’s because of you. These vital ecosystems, once threatened by encroachment and degradation, are now being restored through community-led conservation efforts.
This month, local volunteers marked protected zones and replanted indigenous vegetation across degraded wetland areas. The transformation is already visible—water levels are stabilizing, and farmers nearby report improved soil moisture for their crops
One mother shared how the restored wetland has reduced flooding that used to destroy her garden each rainy season. “Now,” she said, “I can plan for my children’s future without fear.”
Wetlands are more than landscapes—they are lifelines. They filter water, support biodiversity, and sustain livelihoods. By restoring them, we are building resilience against climate change while improving daily life for thousands of people.
