FINAL TREE PLANTING REPORT – BUYOGA HILLSIDE EUCALYPTUS REFORESTATION PROJECT

Date: Saturday, May 16, 2026
Location: Buyoga, Rwanda (72HH+PCP)

Dear Patrons,

RWAYDAVO is pleased to share the final report on the completion of our eucalyptus tree planting campaign conducted on our hillside land in Buyoga, Rwanda.

This activity marked the final planting day for the current reforestation phase. The campaign brought together adults, youth, and children who demonstrated remarkable commitment to environmental conservation, land restoration, and sustainable natural resource management.

Community Participation and Environmental Education

Throughout the campaign, special emphasis was placed on involving children and young people in practical environmental conservation activities. Before planting began, participants received demonstrations on proper tree planting techniques, including:

  • Careful removal of nursery bags from eucalyptus saplings
  • Proper placement of seedlings in prepared planting holes
  • Firm covering and refinement of soil around the roots to improve survival rates

These hands-on activities provided valuable environmental education while strengthening community participation and ownership of the project.

Eucalyptus Trees Planted

The eucalyptus planting campaign was implemented in three phases:

  • Phase 1: Approximately 4,200 eucalyptus trees planted
  • Phase 2: Approximately 2,300 eucalyptus trees planted
  • Phase 3 (Final Phase): Approximately 3,000 eucalyptus trees planted

A total of approximately 9,500 eucalyptus trees were successfully planted on the Buyoga hillside land.

In addition, replacement planting was carried out to substitute seedlings that had been damaged or failed to establish. Planting was conducted using a spacing of approximately 1 to 1.5 meters between trees, following recommended practices to promote healthy growth and maximize land coverage.

Challenges Encountered

The project site is located on steep mountainous terrain with no road access. Transportation of eucalyptus seedlings, tools, and supplies required considerable manual effort, as all materials had to be carried on foot. Although these logistical challenges occasionally slowed progress, they did not prevent the successful completion of the campaign.

Expected Impact

The newly planted eucalyptus trees are expected to contribute to:

  • Soil conservation and erosion control
  • Restoration and productive use of degraded land
  • Increased tree cover and environmental sustainability
  • Carbon sequestration and climate resilience
  • Long-term economic benefits through future sustainable harvesting
  • Enhanced community awareness of environmental stewardship

Conclusion

RWAYDAVO is proud to announce the successful completion of the eucalyptus tree planting campaign on the Buyoga hillside land. The achievement of planting approximately 9,500 eucalyptus trees reflects the dedication, teamwork, and commitment of volunteers, children, community members, and supporters who contributed to this important environmental initiative.

Monitoring activities, survival rate assessments, replacement planting where necessary, and maintenance of the trees will continue in the coming months to ensure the long-term success of the project.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all patrons, volunteers, and community members whose support made this achievement possible.

Thank you for your continued support.
