Your support has allowed over 150 youth to access higher education and holistic support that will allow them a sustainable escape from poverty for them and their families!
Context:
Madagascar has the world's highest rate of extreme poverty, with 80.7% of the population living with less than $2.15 per day in 2023.In 2022, 25% of youths (ages 15-24) were not in employment, education or training. About 40% of youths have not completed primary school, and 30% of children (0-17) are in informal employment (child labor). The enrollment rate falls to 13% for higher education. In 2021, young people under the age of 24 represented 65% of the Malagasy population and about 500,000 young people enter the job market each year. However, the island faces a growing need for skilled workers in the digital field.
PASSERELLES NUMERIQUES MADAGASCAR (PNM) Training:
PNM provides a one-year post-high school preparatory course to young Malagasy students. The training is divided between academic classes and pro-bono interventions from private companies supporting the project. The program emphasizes innovative educational approaches to foster problem-solving skills and adaptability. Comprising four modules, students explore applied sciences, IT, languages, and soft skills. They gain industry insights through visits to universities and companies, culminating in a one-month internship. At the end of this preparatory year, we guide our students towards post graduate studies through a tailored guidance adapted to their skills, their desires and in line with the needs of the local market. Those who pursue their studies (98% of our three first classes) are offered scholarships as well as a socio-educational follow-up until they find a secure job.
Program completion and university:
At the end of 2024, the first three graduates of PNM completed their bachelor's degree and are now seeking their first job. The remaining 17 students from the first cohort are set to graduate throughout the year with a bachelor’s degree. In November, we celebrated the completion of the third preparatory class, marking the success of 50 students. Every one of them successfully completed the program and secured admission to one of our three partner universities to continue their studies in the digital field.
