Summary

Many Kenyan girls face barriers due to lack of safe, affordable menstrual products. Today, 65% cannot afford basic pads, forcing thousands of learners to miss 3-4 days monthly and thousands to drop out annually. This desperation leaves 1 in 10 adolescent girls vulnerable to exploitation and abuse to secure pads, leading to unwanted pregnancies and diseases. Our program provides dignity packages with sanitary towels, panties, and hygiene education, keeping girls safely in school to learn.

Challenge

Many girls stay at home during their menstrual periods in Kenya's hard-to-reach areas, as a vast majority cannot afford or access menstrual products due to severe poverty. This forces thousands of learners to miss crucial days of school monthly, falling far behind their peers and driving many to drop out entirely. Pervasive stigma leaves countless girls behind, and without urgent intervention, these children face a high risk of early marriage, exploitation, and a continuous cycle of poverty.

Solution

Our project breaks this cycle by providing monthly dignity packages containing sanitary towels, panties, and life-changing menstrual health and hygiene education directly to schools in remote areas. By equipping girls with these essentials, we eliminate period absenteeism and dismantle pervasive stigma. This safe, supportive environment keeps girls in class, shields them from exploitation and early marriage, and empowers them to fulfill their potential.

Long-Term Impact

In Turkana County, adult literacy is roughly 20%, with over 80% having never attended formal education and widespread violence or early marriage risking girls' futures. By providing sanitary towels to keep girls in school, we help them navigate these hardships in hard-to-reach areas, delaying marriage, abuse, and exploitation. Long term, this uninterrupted education transforms remote communities, allowing educated young women to support their families' livelihoods and break the cycle of poverty
