The Friends of Education plans to provide quality basic education, meals, tutoring, sports and arts activities to children and teenagers from underserved communities in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
In Brazil, only 33% of students who complete high school go on to higher education. As a result, millions of young people from low-income communities enter adulthood without the qualifications needed to access formal employment and better-paying jobs. Nearly 25% of Brazilians earn less than US$300 per month, and almost 80% earn less than US$1,000 per month, making social mobility extremely difficult.
The Friends of Education project will provides a complete basic education cycle, from elementary school through high school, plus meals, sports and cultural activities as well as a program to prepare kids for career opportunities. Our main goal is to provide high-quality education, socio-emotional development, and access to formal employment in order to break the cycle of poverty for themselves and their families.
The project will provide 250 children each year with access to high-quality education, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to pursue higher education and build successful careers. We believe that the impact of each student extends beyond the individual, benefiting at least three additional family members. As a result, the program's impact reaches more than 1,000 lives.
