Small Cots, Lasting Change

By Pippa Jarvis | Project Leader

Holding the Future, One Cot at a Time

As we prepare this latest update, we find ourselves reflecting on the remarkable power of consistency. In a world where many of the children and families we serve experience instability and uncertainty, the simple act of showing up every day with care, compassion, and commitment continues to change lives.

The Adopt a Cot programme remains one of the most important expressions of Embrace Village's mission. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we have been able to maintain the integrity of our work, uphold our values, and continue providing high-quality care to some of the most vulnerable babies and toddlers in our community.

The Importance of Early Nurture

The earliest years of life shape everything that follows. Research consistently shows that loving relationships, responsive caregiving, proper nutrition, and safe environments are critical for healthy brain development. Yet many of the children who come into our care have experienced significant adversity before they are even able to speak.

Some come from homes affected by poverty, unemployment, trauma, family breakdown, or substance abuse. Others are being raised by grandparents, foster parents, or extended family members doing their best with limited resources.

For these children, our nursery is more than a childcare facility. It is a place where they experience safety, predictability, and belonging. It is a place where they learn that adults can be trusted and that their needs matter.

Every cot represents a commitment to nurturing a child during one of the most important stages of development.

Maintaining Excellence in Challenging Times

This reporting period has not been without challenges. Rising operational costs continue to place pressure on our budget, while the demand for quality childcare remains high.

Despite these realities, we have remained committed to maintaining the standards that define our work. We have continued to provide nutritious meals, developmentally appropriate activities, safe sleeping environments, and trauma-informed caregiving practices.

Our caregivers continue to create the calm, nurturing atmosphere that allows children to flourish. Their work often goes unseen by the outside world, yet it is profoundly important. Every cuddle, every story read aloud, every comforting word contributes to a child's sense of security and self-worth.

We are proud that, even during difficult periods, we have not compromised on the quality of care we provide.

Strengthening Families Alongside Children

One of the greatest strengths of the Adopt a Cot programme is that its impact extends far beyond the individual child.

When parents and caregivers know that their children are safe, nurtured, and thriving, they are better able to seek employment, pursue education, attend appointments, and work toward greater stability for their families.

Many of the families we support face enormous challenges. By caring for their children well, we create space for them to address these challenges with greater confidence and hope.

In this way, every cot becomes part of a wider story of family strengthening and community resilience.

Looking Ahead

As we move into the next reporting period, our commitment remains steadfast. We will continue to provide the consistent, loving care that every child deserves while strengthening the systems of support that surround them.

The need remains significant, but so does our belief in the transformative power of early intervention. Every day we witness the difference that safe relationships, responsive care, and nurturing environments make in the lives of children and families.

Thank You

To every donor who has supported this project, thank you.

Your generosity is helping us provide far more than a place for a child to sleep. You are helping create an environment where children can heal, grow, and develop to their full potential.

Because of you, cots are filled not only with babies, but with hope.

With heartfelt gratitude,
