Supporting Secondary School Students

By Michelle Joy | Project Leader

Dear Friend,

In rural Uganda, access to secondary education remains a major challenge for many young people. Nearly 50% of children who complete primary school do not transition to secondary education, and many who enroll are forced to drop out before completion. Poverty, lack of scholastic materials, and limited guidance opportunities continue to be key barriers affecting educational attainment and future prospects.

Despite these challenges, Development Alert has made significant progress in supporting rural secondary school students to stay in school and pursue their dreams. Through targeted interventions, we have so far empowered over 500 secondary school students across rural communities.

Our support includes career guidance trainings, mentorship programs, provision of scholarships, and distribution of essential scholastic materials. These combined efforts are helping students not only remain in school but also make informed decisions about their future careers.

Key Impact Highlights

  • 500+ secondary school students empowered across rural Uganda
  • Career guidance and mentorship provided to support informed career choices
  • Scholarships awarded to reduce financial barriers to education
  • Scholastic materials distributed to improve learning outcomes
  • Increased school retention and motivation among vulnerable learners

These interventions are creating pathways for students to complete their education and transition into meaningful opportunities in the future. Each supported student represents potential unlocked and a step toward breaking the cycle of poverty.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our supporters who have made this impact possible. Your generosity continues to change lives and open doors for rural students who would otherwise be left behind.

We invite you to join us in supporting rural secondary school students in Uganda. Together, we can ensure that more young people complete their education and build brighter, more secure futures.
