*Urgent Appeal: Help Gaba Hope for Kids Put Ebola Prevention Measures in Place*
With the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak active in eastern DRC and now 8 confirmed cases in Uganda, our 220 children across 5 rural villages are at risk. Schools, crowded homes, and limited health facilities make prevention critical right now. We can’t wait.
*Why Gaba Hope for Kids Must Act Now*
1. *Children are most vulnerable*: A quarter of Ebola deaths in this outbreak are children. Our kids walk long distances, share classrooms, and live in households with elderly caregivers.
2. *No vaccine exists for Bundibugyo strain*: Unlike Zaire Ebola, there’s no vaccine yet. Prevention comes down to awareness, early detection, and infection control.
3. *Conflict + displacement nearby*: Fighting in DRC is pushing people toward Uganda’s border. Overcrowded camps spread disease fast. Our villages are along transit routes.
*What We’re Asking Donors to Fund Right Now*
With your support we will put these measures in place before term exams next month:
1. *Community Health & Awareness
Train 15 community health volunteers + peer mentors to teach handwashing, safe burials, and early symptom reporting in all 5 villages. Create posters and radio messages in Luganda + local dialects.
2. *Handwashing + Sanitation Stations
Install 40 tippy-tap handwashing stations at schools, learning centers, and homes of our most vulnerable children. Provide soap and chlorine for 3 months.
3. *PPE + Screening Kits for Staff - $2,500*
Thermometers, gloves, masks, and disinfectant for teachers and mentors doing home visits. We must protect staff who are our first line of detection.
4. *Emergency Food Support - $5,500*
If schools close or families are quarantined, hunger forces children to leave home for work. Daily porridge + dry rations for 120 children reduces risky movement.
Motorcycle fuel for mentors to reach remote homes within 48 hours if a child shows symptoms, and to link families to Ministry of Health clinics.
*What Your Support Does*
This isn’t panic spending. It’s the exact playbook that stopped Ebola in Uganda in past outbreaks: community education + handwashing + early isolation + trusted local messengers. Our mentors already have trust in these villages. With resources, they can act fast.
Gaba Hope for Kids has kept children in school through poverty, hunger, and COVID. We won’t let Ebola take that progress away.
*Call to Action*
Donors, partners, friends — help us shield these children before the virus reaches their classrooms. Every dollar goes directly to prevention supplies and local volunteers who know the communities.
