Malaria is one of the most serious public health problems in Sierra Leone

Did you know that the 25 April is marked as World Malaria Day each year? This is because the impact of malaria is still significant - and is an attempt to help focus attention to it. Fortunately, since you are reading this, you are already aware of this problem and helping to make malaria history!
This year, a group did a study on the countries most affected by the mosquito-transmitted disease. They found out that despite the fact that "malaria mortality rates have diminished by 42% since 2000, the disease caused an estimated 627,000 deaths in 2012 only", according to the World Health Organization. This is a significant number of deaths! The study also observed the following:
- Children and pregnant women are the worst affected, and over 80% of deaths occur in sub-Saharan Africa among children under five.
- Malaria is one of the most serious public health problems in Sierra Leone, according to the WHO.
- It is the most common cause of illness and death in the country, accounting for about 50% of outpatient visits and 38% of admissions.
- Malaria-related illnesses contribute to 38% and 25% of child and all-ages mortality rates, respectively.
- Sierra Leone's government has identified malaria as an illness of high priority, and various organs of the government, including the Ministry of Health, are undertaking all efforts possible to reduce the incidence of malaria, UNICEF said.
With all this confirms the vital necessity to do what we are doing together - providing the much needed nets to prevent the spread of this disease. Thankfully, with YOUR support, we have provided thousands of nets over the past years - helping to save many lives from sickness and possible death.
The beneficiaries that have received nets through your support - such as the ones pictures - are ever so grateful for the provision of these nets as it eliminates their exposure at the most crucial time of the day - when they are asleep at night. Thanks to YOUR SUPPORT - many of the under 5 children who are most at risk are now able to sleep safe and sound. All this would not have been possible without your support.
The facts clearly indicate that there are still many, many lives at risk. YOUR HELP is essential and will make the difference between one or more lives being able to live through another month.
At least 500 families are at risk - sleeping with no nets or with damaged, torn nets - in the Wellington community. We need to provide each family with 2-3 nets. We need YOUR help. Can you help us provide this life-preserving gift to them today?
Your donation of $10 will provide one net - helping us this essential protection to one more child. Thanks so much for your support! On behalf of the grateful families - THANK YOU!

Juanita is Now Free From Mosquito Bites and Malaria!
By Sylvester Renner | Project Leader

Juanita - bed net beneficiary
Did you know that over half a million people die from malaria every year, mostly children younger than five years old. Only about 5% of children sleep under a net. These statistics can be depressing!
The great news, on the other hand, is that we are together helping to address this and turning the tide. Along with your support, thousands of nets have been distributed free.
The insecticide-treated mosquito nets that we provide are a proven method of reducing exposure to mosquito bites and the killer disease of malaria. The bed nets save lives by effectively reducing exposure to mosquito bites. The nets are useful particularly for protecting vulnerable children who are less resistant to the malaria.
Juanita is one of the beneficiaries who received a net and this video includes her brief testimonial. As you can see from the video, we are making a definite impact and Juanita is now mosquito-bite and malaria-free. Thanks so much for helping to make this happen!
Thousands of families do not have nets. We could together help many more families stay healthy.
Can you join us in providing 5 nets today? Your donation of $50 will bring the priceless gift of health to 5 deserving children. Thanks so much for your support!

Hurrah! Together We are Providing The Best Form of Protection... Verified and Proven
By Sylvester Renner | Project Leader

Did you know that YOUR donation / support of this project is helping to accomplish something effective and proven! Here are 2 snippets / resources that confirm this:
1. The families that we have provided with nets now have a dramatically reduced or zero incidence of malaria. Thanks to your support - there has been a dramatic drop in illness and loss of time due to illness - at work and school. One such beneficiary is Randy F (pictured). Randy lives in the Wellington suburb of Freetown. He is a carpenter and the main provider of a family of four, with monthly income of $50 - not enough to cover the basic needs of the home. His family lives in a single bedroom apartment with electricity but no running water.
When we interviewed Randy, he confirmed that his family is now having interruption and mosquito-bite-free sleep each night. Since he received a net 13 months ago, no one in his family has had malaria. This is significant because malaria used to be a common occurrence - with each person getting malaria between 1-3 times each year! Randy and his family are deeply grateful to Global Giving and Develop Africa donors for the provision of the health-preserving bed net.
This is truly exciting news - to know that Your support is making a proven, verified impact.
Given the wide-spread and on-going exposure to mosquitoes, we are together indeed taking the best course of action - helping to provide mosquito nets.
The Next Step: While we have together provided thousands of nets, there are many more homes with no mosquito nets or with just one net. We invite you to join us in ensuring that every family that needs a net gets one. Can you help us do so by provide a net through your donation of $10 today?
The next best way you can help is to
