Happy New Year
By Sophie Birkett | Charitable Trust manager

Dear Supporter,
December we saw our kindergarten class of 2013 graduate and our new classroom were completed with generous donations from you and lots of volunteer work!
For 2014, we are sponsoring three of our graduates to study at the local non-profit bilingual school which is a considerable amount per month, so we have plenty of fundraisers planned for this year. We will also continue our own sponsorship program with the Mal Pais Education Project Kinder, we have 10 students starting on Monday!
We are grateful for the opportunity to unite our little community through education. Through our learning center and community center we're able to support and empower local families and facilitate a brighter future for our students.
Happy New Year and thank you all for your support in our community/education project.
All the best

Dia de Culturas
By Sophie Birkett | Charitable Trust manager

Dear Supporter,
After a lot of financial support we have finally started construction of the classrooms for our kindergarten in Mal Pais! We still need to raise funds for classroom furniture and supplies and volunteers are ready to start painting next month. The doors will be open in January 2014 and we are very excited to welcome our new students.
In Costa Rica, October is the month to celebrate world culture with October 12th being a national holiday called 'Dia de Culturas", to highlight both the cultural contributions of the Spanish, indigenous and Caribbeans. We enjoy this time with the students to celebrate different cultures and integrate global issues into the curriculum.
In December, three of our sponsor students are graduating and we are hoping to continue sponsoring them with full scholarship at the non-profit community bilingual school "Escuela Futuro Verde"...so plenty more fundraising events to come.
We are grateful to all our private sponsors who help us finance the project and also the many volunteers who have and still continue to share their time and energy.
Many thanks
Sonya Danchik

We hope this report finds you well! A lot of changes for the project are coming up. We are excited to build a new classroom for the kindergarten and plan on a fundraiser to help with the building costs. We also have two volunteer teachers who are pregnant, which is very exciting! So we have been busy the past couple of months interviewing international teachers and we are happy to welcome new members to the team very soon.
Unfortunately we had to postpone our July fundraiser due to bad weather. We are planning to reschedule soon and hope it will be a success. We hope to gather sufficient funds to continue to sponsor our graduating students so they may attend the Bilingual school in Cobano.
All our students are doing really well in both languages and the project has really made a positive impact on the community and we are thankful to be a apart of it.
Thank you for your continuing support for this community.
