Menstrual health during our outreach

Report: Menstrual Health During Our Outreach
Theme: Dignity First, Education Follows at Gaba Hope for Kids

Menstrual health during our outreach. Since 2021 we have supported over 860 children, and one truth shows up in every school we visit: when we protect menstrual health, we protect education. Girls do not leave class because of their bodies. They leave because barriers meet them without support.

*What We See During Outreach*
1. *Shame Before Support*: Many girls learn about menstruation from fear, not facts. They miss days, hide stains, and believe their bodies are a problem. Outreach starts by replacing shame with truth.
2. *Absence Starts With One Cycle*: A girl misses 2-5 days each month. By term three, she is behind, quiet, and thinking of quitting. Teachers see it first. We hear it during every school visit.
3. *Boys Are Part Of The Story Too*: When boys learn respect and facts, teasing drops. Classrooms get safer. Dignity is not a “girls only” issue. It is a culture issue.
4. *Guardians Want Guidance*: Mothers and fathers ask questions during outreach. “How can we help her stay?” “What is normal?” When families are included, girls are protected at home and at school.

*What Our Outreach Delivers*
1. *Knowledge With Respect*: We teach the biology in simple, honest language. We answer questions girls are afraid to ask. We tell them: your body is not a barrier. Lack of support is.
2. *Dignity Kits + Training*: Girls receive menstrual kits and practical training on hygiene, care, and confidence. They practice managing their cycle so day one and day thirty look the same in class.
3. *Safe Spaces To Talk*: We create circles where girls speak and are heard. No judgment. No silence. When a girl says “I was scared,” other girls say “me too.” Fear loses power in a group.
4. *Teachers + Mentors Equipped*: We train teachers to notice early signs and respond with care, not punishment. Mentors learn to save seats, protect privacy, and speak up for girls when pressure comes.

*What Changes After Outreach*
1. *Girls Stay All Month*: Attendance becomes consistent. Girls stop losing lessons to their period. Grades stop falling because of preventable absence.
2. *Confidence Returns*: A girl who was silent starts answering questions. A girl who hid starts leading group work. Dignity restores voice.
3. *Classroom Culture Shifts*: Boys learn to stand up for girls instead of teasing them. Teachers report less bullying, more teamwork. Respect grows for everyone.
4. *Early Marriage Loses Ground*: When a girl stays in school and sees her own future, marriage is delayed. Education gives her options and time to choose.

One girl told us during outreach: “Before, I thought my period meant I had to stay home. Now I know it means I need a kit and knowledge. I stayed all month for the first time.”

*Why Outreach Must Be Ongoing*
One session helps. Consistent outreach protects. New girls join each term. Myths return if truth is not repeated. We go back term after term because menstrual health is not a one-time lesson. It is a habit of dignity.

*Closing*
Menstrual health during our outreach is not about products alone. It is about power. The power of knowledge. The power of dignity. The power of staying.

Thanks for supporting outreach that puts girls first. Thanks for believing that no girl should choose between her body and her education.

When we protect menstrual health, we keep girls in class. When we keep girls in class, we protect their futures.

Every girl deserves to learn without shame.
