Summary

The project is set up to providing a source of clean drinking water to a local community. The aim is to address the chronic water scarcity faced by residents of Aparis village by looking for donor support to help repair all old and broken boreholes and improving infrastructure for water access for poor residents. The most basic requirement to sustain life is clean water

Challenge

A 7 year old borehole is broken. Currently most residents do not have access to clean water and rely exclusively on open wells, lakes and other unprotected sources. On a daily basis they struggle to find clean safe drinking water and can take a major part of a family's resource. More often than not the burden falls to women and children to collect water often walking a great distance from home. Even then water drawn from pools or rivers is often contaminated with pollutants.

Solution

This project works with community local leadership to identify broken down boreholes, renovate them and supply a maintenance programme to ensure that clean, safe water is delivered as a result. Repairing a broken well is often an economical way to help a community secure clean water without the cost of drilling.

Long-Term Impact

Our common goal is to contribute to water security through nature-based solutions and sustainable watershed management.Occasionally, community members would contribute and give money to a hand pump mechanic who would come to assess and repair the borehole. this approach long term would be removed with donor support.
