Dear Friends and Supporters,
Thank you for your continued support in helping protect and empower girls affected by gender-based violence in Thailand.
Gender-based violence remains a significant challenge for girls and women in Thailand, driven by factors such as poverty, gender inequality, family instability, and limited access to education and economic opportunities. These challenges can increase vulnerability of girls and young women to violence, exploitation, and barriers to recovery.
From January to May 2026, AAT continued to provide protection, legal support, and prevention services to girls and communities at risk.
Protection
During this period, AAT conducted online and field fact finding in collaboration with government and NGO partners to identify and support girls experiencing sexual exploitation and violence. These efforts resulted with 2 successful rescue operations, leading to the protection of 3 Thai girls from commercial sexual exploitation.
Recent trends: Our team also observed an increased risk of young girls being recruited into restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues during school holidays, highlighting the continued need for fact finding, risk identification, and community-based protection efforts.
Prevention
From January to May 2026, AAT conducted 2 awareness-raising activities with a total of 78 individuals establishing knowledge on sexual exploitation, safe migration, and overseas employment.
The first training on particular topics was provided for 52 community participants in Nakhonratchasrima Province. The sessions covered risk factors, warning signs of exploitation, local experiences exchange, and emerging forms of online exploitation using real-life case examples.
For another training, 26 university students, from a university in Nakhonratchasrima Province, participated. Important points such as sexual exploitation, online safety, responsible digital behaviour, safe migration, and risks associated with overseas employment are discussed, aiming to enhance awareness among young individuals using online platforms and entering employment markets.
Legal Support
From January to May 2026, AAT's legal team provided support for our survivors across Thailand. During this period, compensation claims totaling 465,000 THB were pursued on behalf of seven victim survivors through 16 legal proceedings. In addition, victim survivors and their families received more than 220 instances of other legal support throughout the justice process such as case follow-ups, coordination meetings, compensation application support, as well as request and statement submissions.
Successful Story : From Fear to Justice: A Survivor's New Beginning
AAT supported a university student from a province in northeastern Thailand, who experienced gender-based violence and long-term trauma resulting from sexual abuse by a retired teacher. For years, she lived with fear, emotional distress, and ongoing mental health challenges.
Five years after the abuse, the survivor found the courage to pursue legal action against the perpetrator. Throughout the case, AAT provided legal support and coordinated closely with the police, prosecutor, and court authorities.
Despite the emotional challenges and uncertainty faced by the survivor and her family during the lengthy legal process, the court ultimately ruled against the perpetrator. The outcome marked an important step toward justice, healing, and a new beginning for the survivor.
Your support is significant for survivors to access justice and to create opportunities for empowering lives and brighter futures. Thank you for helping girls and their communities in rebuilding strengths, safety, and creating positive change forward.
With gratitude,
The AAT Team
